Panama Canal Outdated At Opening?

This old cartoon shows all the flying machines the artist could imagine at the time and asking if the Panama Canal would be outdated at the time of its opening in 1914 or soon thereafter. As history has shown the Canal is now a 100 years later still very much up to date and the flying machines have not taken over the worlds cargo as of yet. But yes people fly more these days then back 100 years ago.
