1886 The French Canal as planed 

Notice: The Chagres River diverted

The Chagres River with flooding in the rainy seasons was a major obstacle for construction causing landslides and loss of equipment.

Hence to calm investors and facilitate the Canal construction 1885- 86  they planed to divert  the river as shown in the drawing , but that was never completed.
